How to Pay for College

The goal is to be a Debt-Free Scholar. And it is possible.

This 4 week series is focused on preparing college-bound students to pay for college without high student loan debt. Every Monday, participants will tune in for live instruction and learn information to help them navigate college finances.

This series also includes an optional weekly 30 minute Question and Answer held on Wednesdays at 6:00PM following a session.

Week 1

Meet the Presenter

Ms. Tanika Mangum, the CEO of Paid4College, is affectionately known as the scholarship advocate and truly believes in the power of scholarships. As a first-generation college graduate, she earned a Bachelor's degree from Eastern Connecticut State University, a Master's degree in Higher Education from Florida International University, and an Executive Leadership for Change degree from the Carroll School of Management at Boston College. She is student loan debt-free and did it all with the help of scholarships! She has over 12 years of experience and has worked with national scholarship organizations like the United Negro College Fund, and served on multiple scholarship selection committees. She has been regionally and nationally recognized for top leadership qualities and impactful advancement initiatives to move students and families to action with a Can-Do attitude.

College Financial Literacy | In this first session you will learn all the college terms and the full breakdown of the financial aid process.


Week 2

Power of Scholarships | In this second session you will learn about my favorite, and soon to be your favorite - FREE MONEY for college. Learn all the best tips and strategies to find, apply, win and all its benefits.


Week 3

Week 4

Write to W.I.N | In this session, you will learn how to write a winning essay. 80% of scholarships ask for an essay - the money is in your story and you will learn what and how to write it.


Ways to Pay for College | In our final session, you will learn all the ways to pay for college. We will talk about the “L” word - Loans. Gain a full understanding of the types of loans, pros and cons and how to manage them to avoid crippling debt and also discuss earning money and how it can assist you in paying for college.

  1. Where will these sessions be held?

    Students of Oakmont High School will be able to attend in-person or virtually utilizing Google Classroom. All registrants will be provided instructions on how to gain access to the Google classroom prior to the first session and location information for in-person.

  2. What happens if I can’t make a session/week?

    We understand that things come up, but we hope that you can make every session. If not, all sessions will be recorded and available in the Google classroom. Participants will only have access up to October 31, 2022.

  3. What if I have questions after a session/week?

    Sometimes, questions come up after the session, therefore we are preparing an optional weekly Questions and Answer session on Wednesday evenings (6:00PM PST) for 30 minutes. All registrants will receive an invitation to participate each week.

  4. What will be the platform for the live webinars?

    We will use zoom for all live webinars.

  5. How long is each session?

    Each Monday session is 60 minutes.
